Two drivers belonging to a Colchester-based aid agency were caught up in gunfire as they left Albania.
Just Help spent several weeks transporting vital supplies to thousands of Kosovar refugees on the Macedonian border.
Lorry drivers Dave Cook of Alresford and Alan Garnham were heading home earlier this week when shots were fired in the port of Durres.
According to Just Help, police used their guns while trying to apprehend an Albanian. Wendy Oliver, of Just Help, said: "There were some shots fired away from the cab, but it was to do with a local person who was, we believe, trying to steal various articles from lorries in the port.
"Our lorry was not caught in the crossfire. The drivers were not injured."
