The Brentwood & District Table Tennis League season has now drawn to its conclusion with some of the most exciting encounters in the league's history.

The cream on the top of the cake was the final of the Knockout Cup played between Billericay Catholic 'A' and Hutton 'C'.

Catholic, brilliantly led and organised by their captain Dave Calleja, faced Hutton captained by the experienced campaigner Reg Innes who was supported by Ray Bryant and Paul England.

Completing the Billericay line-up were John Holton and Andy Halling.

Taking the First two rubbers, Catholic quickly went into a 2-0 lead and looked as though they were to sweep the board, they however did not take into consideration the opposing captains ability to take the scalp of his opposite number.

Although this was a hiccup in the progress of the Billericay team it did not stop them taking the next three games to give them an unassailable lead.

Once again Billericay Catholic are the 'Team of the Season' something of which they are making a habit of.

In the Premier Division, Brentwood 'B' nearly white-washed Hutton 'A' 8-2 putting Brentwood into third spot while this defeat for Hutton condemns them to relegation along with Brentwood 'C'.

In the First Division, fellow strugglers St Joseph's and Highwood 'A' fought out a lone battle with the Saints winning 6-4 but all to no avail as both these teams are condemned to the 'big drop'.

Warley Stars 'A' have used their last remaining four games and turned them into winning scores giving them the runners-up position and promotion into the Premier.

The second division matches saw Brentwood 'E' play two back to back matches and both scored creditable 6-4 victories against Cranston Park 'B' then Stock 'C' to give them a middle of the table spot.

Playing their last match of the season, Stock then played hosts to Catholic 'B' with the Billericay team winning 7-3 to keep Stoke in the lower regions while Catholic enjoy being among the honours.

In the Fourth Division, rounding off the most successful season for the Catholic club, their 'C' team took on Buttsbury 'E; and gave them a lesson and with the scoreline at 8-2 this gives them the championship.
