Thurrock stole victory in an exciting testimonial match in recognition of Alex Knapton who is stepping down from the number eight position of the Burnham first team after a long and illustrious rugby career.
The game started well with Burnham immediately on the attack and spending the vast majority of the first half camped in the Thurrock 22 where it was only stout defence that kept the score 0-0.
Seven minutes before half time, Earing, while getting to his feet from a tackle was taken out by one of his own props.
After a brief period, he left the field to be replaced by Hart who came into second row, while Knapton took over the reins as captain.
Into the second half and Burnham were once again on the attack and with their scrum settled, Burnham went for a push over try via Knapton and it was converted by Edwards.
With the restart Burnham were on the attack again with full-back Finn breaking into the line at pace, and also Page who had come on to replace Kelly.
Although Burnham defended gallantly, injuries and the forced reshuffles had taken their toll as team had to defend their line with encouragement from Knapton and the spectators.
Thurrock then squeezed a try in to bring the score to 7-5 in Burnham's favour.
In the closing seconds, Thurrock gained a penalty which they kicked to bring the score 8-7 in their favour with the full-time whistle sounding after the ball hit the ground.
