The second in Gunfleet Sailing Club's Spring Series was held on Sunday under bright sunshine.
However, a stiff breeze made the sea lumpy and for many it proved quite difficult to launch. Eight boats took part and as the fleet headed towards the Kingscliff buoy, the Heath brothers led the way in their RS400, closely followed by the Lasers.
Leading the slow fleet was Richard Walker in his Sea Ranger with Claire Hull in her Topper close behind. Claire got ahead on the fetch to the Seaward mark but lost it again later in the race on the beat from Outer Distance mark.
The leg that proved particularly interesting was the broad reach from Seaward to the St Michael's buoy when the angle of the waves made for some lively sailing.
Although there were no capsizes, one or two boats came close to disaster when they nearly broached.
Result - 1 RS 400, John and Andrew Heath; 2 Laser, Ken Potts; 3 Laser, John Tappenden.
