Saturday's visitors to Scraley Road, Bishops Stortford, were still battling hard to escape the drop to Division One of the Ryman League.

Missing from the Swifts line-up were Wayne Adcock and Colin Wall (both suspended) while Liam Cutbush, Ben Lewis and Alex Fiddes returned after injuries, the former two to the starting line up and Fiddes to the bench.

The home side were unlucky not to take the lead in the sixth minute when Stortford's goalkeeper pushed over a header from Christian McClean.

In the 17th minute a fierce 30 yard drive from Tony Adcock flashed inches over the Stortford bar.

At the other end, Kingsley Banks had to punch clear from two corners in quick succession

Nicky Simpson should have broken the deadlock just before half time when he seized on a mistake which left him with just the advancing goalkeeper to beat.

His poke towards goal looked good all the way, before it bounced agonisingly the wrong side of the post.

The second half saw Stortford come out with more spirit as their manager must have reminded them it was a game they had to win to have any chance of survival.

After spells of strong pressure, the visitors took the lead in the 72nd minute when Fannon hit an unstoppable shot on the turn high into the top of the net.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 as Commerford added a second goal.

Immediately Swifts pulled one back with Tony Adcock superbly heading home a free-kick from Simpson.

Heybridge threatened to steal the show, but the visitors held on to secure the points and may yet be visiting Scraley Road again next season.

Heybridge Swifts: Banks, Cranfield, Cutbush, Lewis, English, McClean, Simpson, Gillespie, Streetly, T Adcock and Miyoba.

Substitutes: Fiddes (for Cutbush), Heasman and Marshall (not used).

Swifts' difficult Ryman League Premier Division season comes to a close on Saturday when they travel to play Hampton (kick off 3pm).
