Thousands of people are expected to attend two major events in Braintree and Witham this Bank Holiday weekend.
In Braintree, the Bocking Village Fayre is being held on Monday and organisers hope it will beat last year's fund-raising total of £8,000.
Starting at 10am, the fayre will be taking place at venues throughout the village.
Highlights will include a fun run, pet shows, a performance by Bocking Concert Brass, a duck race and traditional sideshows and stalls.
Braintree and Bocking new carnival queen, Kelly Byrne and her two princesses, Kayleigh Barnard and Jemma Harvey will be crowned and officially open the event.
"It's like a traditional village fair with lots of attractions, sideshows and bands," said Bob Pickford from the fayre co-ordinating group. "Last year the village was absolutely teaming - all we need is some good weather."
All proceeds will benefit village churches, Church Street primary school and the RSPCA who are organising a dog show.
Residents of Witham are also preparing for the town's new look Mayfest event, which is being held in Maldon Road recreation field from 12 noon to 10pm.
Events co-ordinator said the Mayfest will be completely different from previous years' events.
"Everything is going to be different. The whole thing is going to be much bigger and there will be a lot more activities," he said.
This year attractions include a flight simulator, hot air balloon rides, a line dancing demonstration, prize draws, stalls, refreshments and many other sideshows and games.
