The loss of the Essex Police horses as part of swingeing budget cuts means the end of an era in policing.
For horses Clouseau and Chichester it has also meant a total change of lifestyle.
The pair are enjoying their official retirement. Acting Sgt Ian Jeffries, of the now closed mounted section based at Southend police station, said: "The end of police horses in Essex is sad.
"We hope to find good homes for all of our horses so they have a long and happy retirement."
