A woman died and three people were injured in a three-car collision in Dunmow.
An Essex Police spokesman said the accident happened at 8.40am yesterday (Thursday) on Chelmsford Road, near the Flitch industrial estate.
A BMW was involved in a collision with a Citroen travelling in the same direction, and then with a Skoda coming the other way.
The rear seat passenger in the Skoda was killed in the accident, and the driver of the Skoda and his wife were both taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.
The Skoda driver was in a serious condition yesterday, although his wife's injuries were believed to be less serious.
The driver of the BMW was also taken to Broomfield Hospital.
All three people in the Skoda were from the Dunmow area, although poolice have not yet released their identities.
