Snetterton was the venue for the third round of the British Motor Cycle Racing Clubs Championship held over the Easter weekend.

Marks Tey's Gary Waylen was in action following his impressive start at Lydden Hill two weeks previously, but had been unable to practice at the circuit on his Ron Parkinson Kawasaki prior to the meeting, and had to use his early events to find his way round the fast Norfolk track.

In his first event on Saturday, Waylen was forced to retire with a deflated front tyre caused by a faulty valve.

In his following two races he showed his potential with a ninth and seventh place, much to the pleasure of a large number of supporters who had travelled from Colchester to see him.

On Sunday, this time over longer race distances, Waylen again competed with the championship leaders, finishing tenth and seventh in his first two outings.

The best was still to come, however. In his third race of the day, the '600cc Rookie' event, Waylen led from the start, had a 'bit of a moment' as he went sideways through the first corner after seeing off a strong challenge from eventual second place man Mark Holton.

Waylen then romped home to take his first victory, recording the fastest lap time of 1.15.85 at 92.65mph

Colchester rider Kieron Hayes was also competing on his Kawasaki ZXR400. Hayes had suffered mechanical problems at the first two rounds and was happy to have raced all weekend, finishing in mid-table places in most of his events.
