Police today warned they would take a tough line on troublemakers in Castle Point.
The pledge followed two attacks in one afternoon on friends out walking in Rushbottom Lane, Benfleet.
The 16-year-old and 18-year-old were verbally abused and punched by a gang of five youngsters aged between 14 and 16.
Then, just two and a half hours later, they were again targeted by the same gang. They were both punched and kicked to the floor. Both suffered facial injuries.
Following information, police officers then swooped on a party at a Benfleet house and made five arrests in connection with the attacks.
Sgt Pat Harle, of Benfleet police, said: "The message we are sending out is that this behaviour will not be tolerated."
Sgt Harle said no charges had been laid against the five teenagers who were arrested following the attacks on the afternoon of March 31, although police were considering what action to take.
