Seafront traders were bracing themselves for a massive influx of Easter tourists and day-trippers as temperatures soared into the 70s.
Pubs, beaches and amusement arcades have been packed out all week with families taking advantage of the school break and fine weather.
Hopes were high that this will continue well into the Easter weekend.
Southend Council marketing and tourism boss, Mike Pressling, said: "The Easter holidays traditionally mark the start of the long summer season for our traders. It has been very busy this week. We hope it will continue."
Pubs in Leigh's Old Town have been packed out all week, with tourists taking time out to look around the historic fishing port.
Weather forcasters predict that the next three days will be warm with long sunny spells with temperatures between 59 and 64 degrees.
