Innovative community projects in Basildon and Tilbury are being used as a benchmark for other schemes across the country.
Eight new Government agencies have been set up nationwide to build on the success of various programmes already under way.
They aim to ensure money and resources are used in the best way for regeneration projects.
In south Essex the new East of England Development Agency praised Basildon's BONUS scheme.
The project targets those aged between 14 and 20 who are believed to be the least employable youngsters in their schools.
Teachers can bring in specialists from local businesses or organisations to hold workshops and develop communication and leadership skills.
Tilbury's scheme to save the old fire station from demolition and turn it into a community resource centre was also highlighted by the agency.
Training programmes have been set up in fork lift truck driving and bricklaying and the centre also boosts two computer rooms and an office for a youth and community worker.
