Witham had the better of the early exchanges in Tuesday's match.
The home side went close to scoring when Kevin Jopson of Witham was forced to head the ball off the line but generally the first half was evenly matched.
Seconds before the break Witham goalkeeper Tony Williams was injured after colliding with a home forward and took no further part in the game after suffering from concussion.
Young Gino Defeo took over the goalkeeper's jersey after the interval and did well by making some good saves -- he is normally a striker with Town's youth team.
On 55 minutes, Hertford's Gary Riddle was sent off after palming the ball over the crossbar after Wayne Vaughan had beaten keeper Lee Bozier to the ball, and his lob was certainly goalbound.
Lee Guiver stepped up to convert the resulting penalty and Vaughan scored Witham's second goal after shrugging off some fierce tackling before shooting past Bozier.
Adam Morrish made it 3-0 by netting from close range after a good cross by Simon Roberts.
After the game it was revealed that Williams had recovered, but he needed a visit to the dentist on Wednesday morning! The win further eased Witham relegation worries and two more wins could see them finish in a respectable mid table position.
