A truancy-busting scheme has smashed non-attendance at a Wickford school.
Since the new awards scheme was introduced, the number of pupils taking part who played hooky has been reduced - to zero!
Two forms of pupils at Beauchamps School, in Beauchamps Drive, have managed to get through a whole term without one single member turning up late.
The classes were awarded the 100 per cent bronze award for their efforts.
A school spokesman said: "These two classes have now become very competitive in going for 100 per cent punctuality for the whole year.
"They have come up with the motto: 'Punctuality is for life, not just for the Christmas term'.
The awards are part of a whole programme which have helped raise awareness of the importance of punctuality and attendance.
The students can now aim for silver and gold punctuality certificates for achieving two terms (silver) of the whole year (gold) without being late."
Bronze certificates were also given to 21 per cent of students who achieved 100 per cent attendance.
The spokesman said: "The introduction to this scheme is certainly playing a part in the tremendous achievement of Beauchamps in public examinations and the league tables."
