With less than a minute left on the clock Heybridge looked to have gained three valuable points against fellow relegation battlers, Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday.
Then out of the blue Dean Holness let fly with an unstoppable shot from 25 yards that left Swifts' goalkeeper, Kingsley Banks, rooted to the spot.
As Swifts restarted the game they were swamped by a cavalry charge from Hamlet players and they stormed forward, Banks saved from Carroll but Anderson was hard in to score and secure maximum points for the home side.
Heybridge had taken a lead in an explosive opening 20 minutes that could have seen them score six.
With the new signing Tony Adcock joining his younger brother, Wayne, in the Swifts' line up it was a confident Swifts side that ran out.
In the third minute a Wayne Adcock ball over the top bounced awkwardly for Christian McClean and he did well to get a shot in which the experienced Les Cleevely saved with his legs.
In the 12th minutes Swifts opened the scoring when a deep cross by Alex Fiddes saw excellent work by McClean to get the ball back across goal and Nicky Simpson slid in to poke the ball home.
A long ball pumped into the Dulwich box was met by Fiddes and his looping header appeared to have beaten Cleevely but the Dulwich keeper sprung himself back to palm the ball in the air and it was scrambled clear as Simpson attempted to force the ball home.
In the 15th minute, McClean sent Simpson through and he beat the advancing keeper to increase the lead.
McClean and Fiddes both had half chances to increase the lead further before Dulwich reduced the arrears in the 27th minute.
A run by Dave Stevens saw him round the Swifts defence to score.
A stunning full length save from Banks denied Anderson after he had turned on the edge of the box and the half ended with a long ball over the top of the Swifts' defence being met perfectly by Blackman but his shot was right at Banks who saved.
Two minutes after the restart Swifts were adjudged to have conceded a penalty and this was stroked home by ex Newcastle United star, Peter Garland.
The match dramatically had swung in favour of the home side and they had two chances to take the lead.
First Anderson hit the bar with the goal open and then Blackman should have done better as Banks saved with his legs.
In the 54th minute, Heybridge regained the lead when Simpson completed his hat trick. McClean headed the ball over the defence and Simpson shot across Cleevely into the corner of the net.
Swifts could have wrapped the match up on the hour when a move developed after McClean robbed a Dulwich defender.
Tony Adcock picked up the loose ball and set up Simpson who in turn found Fiddes outside him in space but once again Cleevely did enough to deny him. But it meant another Swifts defeat.
