The Rochford and Castle Point district schools' senior and year nine netball rallies produced double success for FitzWimarc, Rayleigh.
Senior A final saw Fitz beat Hockley opponents Greensward 16-9. Then the Rayleigh outfit won the B final, overcoming Benfleet's Appleton and Greensward in a round robin.
The year nine competition ended in a narrow 6-5 victory for Appleton over Deanes, Thundersley. Thorpe Bay pupils watch England win
More than 50 students and staff from Thorpe Bay School in Southchurch Boulevard, Southend, headed for Wembley to watch England play Poland in the European Championship qualifying match.
PE teacher M Willis said: "We have some first-class footballers here, but no matter how good they are they can always pick up some tips from the professionals.
"The visit to Wembley was an opportunity to see the England team in action and we not only enjoyed the game and cheered outr national team to victory, but also hopefully picked up some tips and tactics for use by the teams in the future."
The match, the first under the four-game reign of new coach Kevin Keegan, saw Paul Scholes' hat-trick earn England a 3-1 success. Aaron's new best
Aaron Cramp flexed his muscles for the new athletics season by producing a personal best javelin throw.
In the warm-up meeting for the new track and field campaign at Mayesbrook Park, Barking, Aaron, a pupil at Basildon's Woodlands School, cleared the 50 metres mark for the first time with a winning effort of 50.41 metres.
Cramp, only 15, is in his first year at the under-17 age group and will now be hoping to repeat his Essex AAA Championship success of last year when his event is staged at Southend on Sunday May 9.
He lives at Vange Hill Drive and is coached by John Mundy at Thurrock. Boys on the ball
Southend High School for Boys were really on the ball when the Borough Schools soccer cup finals were staged at St Thomas More, Westcliff.
Southend contested three of the five age group finals - and won them all.
The year eight team beat Eastwood 4-3 with Michael Allen, Craig Sumner and Ryan Marklew all among the goals.
The year nine team triumphed 3-0 over St Thomas More with Andrew Ferguson grabbing a hat-trick.
Then the year 11 team capped a successful day when they beat Shoebury High 11-0. Here Daniel Webb scored five, probably a Borough record for a final.
Two of these school teams also reached the finals of the South Essex Cup which includes those from the Castle Point District.
The year 11 team continued in good form and completed a cup double, defeating Furtherwick Park School from Canvey 2-0.
The year eight team could not quite manage to emulate the older school team by losing 3-2 to a superb goal in the last seconds of the game.
Southend's success in reaching five cup finals made up for last season when they reached four finals and lost the lot!
