A stressed fianc told magistrates he sped through Wickford because he was so harassed at delivering his wedding invitations.
Philip Truman said he lost concentration as he made the trip and had a "lot of worries" about his forthcoming marriage in two months time.
He was caught by police as he dashed along 30mph Runwell Road at 42mph on Valentine's Day.
The 23-year-old told the Basildon court he could not afford to lose his licence, which already carried nine penalty points, under the totting-up procedure.
He said: "I'm buying a house in South Woodham Ferrers and need my car to get there. I'm one of the main drivers at work. This couldn't have come at a worst time."
Magistrates took pity on him and fined Truman, of The Avenue, Hornchurch, £60.
He was also ordered to pay £35 court costs and given three penalty points.
