Among the fencers selected to represent Great Britain the 1999 Junior World Championships, which this year are held in Hungary, is Colchester's Robin Knight, a member of the town's fencing club CADS.

Robin flew out at the weekend and will be competing towards the end of the week in the sabre events. His results from the following competitions gained him his selection, Frascarti, Dormaigin, Lograno and Dordain.

He has also obtained sufficient results at Bonn, Boston and Athens to qualify for the Senior World Championships to be held in Seoul during the autumn. Fencing equipment suppliers Duellist and Saker Management currently sponsors him.

Robin current junior national ranking is first and at senior level second. Preparation for the event concluded with a weeks training in Colchester, along with two other fencers Tom Cadman and Jo Maynard, all of whom are coached by Colchester coach Prof. Bob Bales BAF.

Jo Maynard is currently first in the junior women's epee rankings while Tom is first in both senior and junior men's epee rankings.

Meanwhile the fencers of the University of Essex held their end of term Epee competition. As is always the case it was a good humoured, but competitive affair with all fencers working are to gain final places.

Nathan Barnes was the eventual winner having finished the competition undefeated.
