Police revived a 62-year-old man found washed up on Southend seafront, but he later died in hospital.
A member of the public alerted police when he saw the elderly man, believed to be from Westcliff, opposite The Leas.
He was pulled from the water where police gave him the kiss of life until ambulance crews arrived.
A police officer drove the ambulance to Southend Hospital so that paramedics could resuscitate the man in the back but he later died.
The man's next of kin were informed of his death over the weekend.
