Grieving pals of tragic Jamie Sincock can now spend time with their cherished memories in a special memorial garden.

The cheery eight-year-old youngster left many hearts broken when he died after a long battle against an immunity disorder last April.

A year later, thoughts of the youngster, from Swan Close, Basildon, are still firmly in the minds of fellow students at Eversley Primary School.

Mum Beverley said she was overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness of the school.

She said: "The school has been great from the start. When they shut the school on the day of Jamie's funeral, it was more than I could ever imagine anyone would do for an eight-year-old.

"I just want to say a huge thank-you to the school, pupils and parents for all their efforts and hard work for Jamie."

Staff and pupils have worked together to produce a memorial garden just in time for the anniversary of Jamie's death.

Last year Southend-based charity the Dream Team whisked him and his family off to Disneyland, Paris.

His brave fight came to a sad end when Jamie fell ill at home and later died in hospital.

Headteacher at Eversley School Catherine Gilmore said it had been a great tribute to Jamie to have his family, friends and teachers working together on the garden.

She said: "The area which has been developed into Jamie's garden was a disused pond before."

"Each child in the school has taken part in planting new bushes and bulbs. We have put a fence around the area and placed log benches for the children to sit and chat. Jamie loved to talk and was a very sociable boy.

"It was lovely to see everyone working together in his memory. We have got a plaque to put in the garden which says 'We worked together to build this garden for Jamie'."

For the anniversary of Jamie's death, April 13, Mrs Gilmore is planning to hold a special assembly to talk about the garden and how it should be used.
