A commitment to beat the millennium bug has been signed by Southend Council.
The authority has joined the Government's Pledge 2000, a nationwide scheme to share information about year 2000 problems.
Jim Aslem, assistant director of corporate services, said: "At the council we are actively working to solve our own Year 2000 problems and are on target in addressing all critical systems."
