Christopher Sleep, of New Road, Ingatestone, will be cycling more than 224 miles across Borneo in South East Asia to raise money for Sense, the world's leading deafblind charity.
But Christopher, a second year student of Law and Criminology at Keele University, had his bike stolen three weeks ago.
He said: "To carry on my training I have borrowed my dad's bike at weekends and used a static bike at the gym.
"I have always wanted to go to Borneo and it's for a worthwhile charity. I'm a keen photographer so I hope to get some fantastic shots."
He needs to raise £2,000 before he goes on April 8 so is looking for local companies and individuals to sponsor him. During his week there, Christopher will visit an Orang-utan reserve and spend a day scuba diving.
To sponsor Christopher call Jean Sleep on 01277 353737.
