Saturday brought Brentwood a realisation that there is no easy remedy for lack of experience.
All too often of late they are giving away soft goals due to lack of concentration and not doing the easy things at the right time.
On a good day they would have given Concord a tight game but on Saturday they made many mistakes and were punished accordingly.
Their opponents had experienced players in the right places and the side as a whole had a good shape and stuck to their game plan throughout the 90 minutes.
In contrast the Blues play was inconsistent and lacking in positional sense and general direction.
They conceded the first goal as early as the fourth minute when James Read failed to play safely in a one on one situation, allowing Ian Gooden to score from close range.
For the next 30 minutes the home side were the equal of their opponents.
They scored an excellent equalising goal in the 24th minute when Grant Delea made a forceful run to the goalline wide to the right.
He beat an opponent and crossed a perfect ball to the back post where Michael Gore headed the ball home.
Just before the break Brentwood's play became sloppy and they unnecessarily conceded a corner on the right.
Matt Ellis took the corner and placed the ball into the back of the net to give the visitors a 2-1 interval lead.
The result was in no doubt when Concord scored in the fourth minute of the second half.
Darren Godfrey was put clear and made no mistake by slotting the ball past Dave Pether and into the net.
Brentwood then held out until the 85th minute when Concord put together a good passing movement and Ian Gooden put the icing on the cake by hitting an excellent shot just inside a post for his second goal.
Brentwood: D. Pether, M. Whitehead (D. Doel 65th), M. Simpkins, L. Felstead, J. Read, C. Mead, J. Taylor, G. Delea, P. Brewington (J. Foolchand), M. Gore and S. Horton.
This Saturday, Brentwood visit Basildon for an Essex Senior League match (noon kick-off) and on Wednesday (March 31), Brentwood are at Bowers United for another league fixture (kick-off 7.30pm).
