Feelings will be running high when a student play kicks off at King John School tonight and tomorrow.
Zigger Zagger tells the story of Harry Philton. His life is dominated by football, violence and the leader of the City supporters, Zigger Zagger.
A spokesman for the school in Shipwrights Drive, Benfleet, said: "It is a struggle to break free from the mob and a simple hope for a life with meaning which goes beyond Saturday afternoons.
"The story is told with no elaborate scenery and simple props. The effect of the play is left to the strong characterisations of the actors and the echoing chants of the football fans, which make up the chorus."
Performances of the upper school drama production, written by Peter Terson and adapted by Trevor Folley, the school's co-ordinator of performing arts, begin at 7.30pm in the school theatre.
Tickets for the show are priced at £2.50.
