Although Basildon United's bid for the title would appear to be over following Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Ilford, they will still be keen for as high a finishing position as possible in the Schweppes Essex Senior League.
For that reason they will be out to give unbeaten Saffron Walden, one of the main championships contenders, a tough time at Gardiners Close tonight.
Basildon would certainly be doing Great Wakering a favour if they could emerge triumphant this evening.
For Saffron Walden are currently level with the village side at the top. Both have 44 points, but Wakering's goal difference is superior with a game less.
Also this evening, Hullbridge host Canvey's Concord Rangers. Sceptre League
Second Division side Woodside Colts 2nd, from Benfleet, beat Division One opponents Renown Sports 2-1 with goals from Smith and Kasper in the second round of the Sceptre League's Section B Andy Ward Memorial Cup.
In the Section C second round, Third Division Wallaker Sports won 4-0 at Division Four Duration with Mansfield scoring two.
In the third round, Shotgate proved too strong for Rayleigh Royals 2nd and won 4-0 with Boswell netting a brace.
At the top of the Premier Division, Aspect Sports extended their lead to five points when they won 4-0 at lowly Astairs. Taylor scored two.
Shoebury Old Boys are second after beating Castle Rangers 3-1. Budd's hat-trick helped Talwin into third spot with a 4-3 win over Brit Athletic to take over third spot.
However, they have only one game to go and should be overtaken for that third place by Castle, who still have five to play.
Rayleigh Royals won the Division One championship in strange circumstances. They lost 3-1 to Perry Athletic, for whom Cross scored two, and could have been beaten for the title by Samba.
However, their hopes disappeared when they lost 4-2 to BJA, for whom Marcell and Watts scored two apiece.
Perry must now wait and see whether they will be runners-up. Samba have one game left and will have to win it 17-0 to take second place. Results:

"We had a surplus of boys last season and had to turn them away," said Trinity's David Jones.
"One of the dads is willing to take on an extra team this year so we want to have a third team in the C Division."
