Celebrity naturalist, David Bellamy, paid a visit to Braintree on Friday.
As well as attending a concert at St Michael's Church, he met schoolchildren and students at Braintree District Museum where he judged a competition to submit an environmental project.
Elm Hall primary school in Witham received £500 to help fund its winning bid. The competition and visit were organised by the John Ray Trust.
