Colchester Harriers ACs under 15 boys team produced a sterling performance at the Essex Young Athletes County Relays at Thurrock Stadium.

The green vests won the bronze medals, a remarkable achievement as all the team were in their first year in this age group.

Yet again it was Darryl Bloomfield who stoked up the Harriers team to take medals by one second from Havering Mayesbrook.

Bloomfield clocked a personal best in 9.58 for the 3,000m event to give Harriers second position on the first leg, the valiant Chris Sellens only dropped one place in 10.37.

Before Anthony Philbrick twice found himself in fourth position before clinching the bronze medals in the last 200 metres in a time of 10.16.

The Under 13 boys, who were also in their first year in this age group, ran a steady race to finish in the top six. All three runners clocked good times and they were Carl White (11.55), Andrew Connerton (12.05) and Mark Monighan (11.40), Monighans time was a personal best run.
