A cabbie has dreamt up an ingenious way to honour Colchester's military for the new millennium.
The scheme would see the insignia of all past and present Army regiments taking pride of place on the town's busy Balkerne Hill.
Taxi driver Douglas Morgan said: "There are a number of black panels which are used as inspection points. I think it would be a great idea to put the regiments' cap badges on these as a way of honouring them."
Mr Morgan, 66, who lives in Sudbury but works in Colchester, is putting his brainchild to the borough council and Bob Russell , the town's MP.
"What a great tribute and tourist attraction this would be. It would also enhance the entrance to the town and mark the new millennium in a fitting way."
The idea struck the former serviceman as he drove past the site in the line of his present duties.
"It is something I have thought about for the last couple of years and I have now decided it is something that should be pushed."
He said the cost of the project might be offset by a contribution from regimental associations.
