Legendary Scotland and Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty has backed the U's to beat Manchester City and for the Reds to win the European Champion's League.
Speaking after a dinner at Stanway Rovers, Docherty said: "Manchester City are on a bit of a high but at Layer Road anything can happen. City lost to Oldham and Colchester know they have nothing to lose.
"City seem to play well against the top teams and struggle against those lower down. No disrespect to Colchester. I can see Colchester pulling it off but it's all on the day."
As Docherty made his speech, news of Manchester United's draw with Milan filtered through.
Docherty said: "It depends a bit on the semi-final draw, but Manchester United need fear no one. It is their year. The side today is twice as good as the one that won in 1968, better than the Busby Babes.
"Alex Ferguson is a great manager but he still doesn't compare with Bob Paisley who won four European Championships back in the days where you got knocked out if you lost a game."
