Having been narrowly beaten into second place in the national schools squash finals in 1998, Brentwood School's Under 19 boys' and girls' squads entered this year's finals at Winchester last week with total commitment.
The boys hit top form to defeat Millfield, coached by former world and British champion Jonah Barrington, 4-1 in the semi-final and then crushed Wycliffe College, Gloucestershire 3-2 in the final.
For the girls, however, it was disaster in the semi-finals. Ecclesbourne College from Derbyshire, not the feared Millfield proved their nemesis. Ecclesbourne won 4-1 and went on to beat Millfield 3-2 in the final.
Brentwood won the play-off for third place, decisively beating Malvern College 5-0.
The Brentwood Girls Under 15 side (comprising several of the same U19 players) lost again to Ecclesbourne College in the semi-finals. Their opponents went on to lose to Newcastle.
Brentwood, in the play-off for third position, beat Sherborne 5-0.
There was some consolation for Brentwood in that their number one player Lauren Selby, was voted female player of the tournament, winning every match in which she took part.
The U19 boys reversed their finals defeat of 1998 by beating Wycliffe College 3-2. Phillip Parker won 9-0, 9-5, 9-3, Daryl Selby won 9-2, 9-2, 9-6 and Peter Barker won 9-0, 9-2, 9-0.
Langley Park School lost to Millfield in the national U15 boys competition.
