Tom Pryor, a 17-year-old Brentwood School champion fencer, has been selected in the Great Britain Under 17 Epee team to compete in the World Championships in Hungary next month.
Tom, who lives in Chelmsford, is ranked No 2 Epee fencer in Britain in the under 17s.
Competing in a recent international tournament at Osnabruck, Germany which attracted 150 competitors from all over the world, he finished a very creditable 26th, outclassing several fancied opponents from strong fencing countries like France, Poland and Germany.
Former Under 15 Epee champion of Britain, Tom is trained by national coach Peter Barrett, former British professional Epee champion.
Two years ago, when aged 14, he got a bronze medal in the British Under 16 Epee championships at Edinburgh and, last year, was in devastating form in the Public Schools Championships at London's Crystal Palace when his performance in Epee and other disciplines helped Brentwood School to retain its team Cup honours for the 22nd time.
