In the Premier Division of the Southend Table Tennis League Rawreth A have virtually clinched the title after thrashing RESSC A 8-1.

However, the electric men didn't help their cause by turning up with only two players against the formidable Rawreth line-up of ex Southend United and current Canvey soccer star Steve Tilson, George Reeves and Chris Nunn.

Canvey A, champions for the past two seasons, look set for runners-up spot after defeating Rawreth B 7-2, courtesy o f Kevin Males, George Pavitt and Dave Torkington.

In Division One, two relegation-threatened teams met with Rawreth C coming out on top against Canvey B.

The winners were helped by a hard-fought maximum from Roger Perham.

Southend Police, fighting against the drop, beat bottom-side Invicta B 7-2. Mike Grout and Tony Newell scored trebles.

In Division Two Thundersley Park, for so long at the bottom, recorded their third successive win in defeating Lentern B 6-3.

Jim McKechnie and Neil Harrild scored maximums. Raw-reth F look favourites for the title after beating rivals Hullbridge E 6-3, Bob Sladden winning three.

In Division Three Scorpions stung Hullbridge F 7-2 with Dick Roberts scoring a maximum.

In Division Four Invicta E dented Canvey D's title hopes, edging a close encounter 5-4. No Invicta player could beat Rob McDonald.
