Mel Capleton is determined to prove himself as Southend United's number one goalkeeper by keeping his close pal Martyn Margetson out of Blues' first team.

"I know Martyn is desperate to win his place back in the team which keeps me on my toes and I'll be doing my best to disappoint him."
However, it has been a long hard road Capleton has followed to achieve success with Southend.
He originally started out at Roots Hall, serving a two-year apprenticeship before being offered a one-year professional contract with Blues.
However, he was shown the door by former Southend manager Colin Murphy before cutting his teeth in league football with Second Division Blackpool, making
