Enfield were the visitors to Heybridge on Saturday, bringing with them a recent record of six wins on the trot which has taken them up to fifth in the league.
Heybridge were without the suspended Nicky Simpson, but welcomed back Alex Fiddes to the starting line up and striker Christian McClean to the bench.
Swift's recent form of two defeats in the last nine has put them in a strong position and it is now in their own hands if they are to escape relegation.
Heybridge got the perfect start on Saturday when Colin Wall was brought down for a penalty after just 45 seconds.
The tall all-round player got up to powerfully fire home the spot kick to give Swifts the early lead.
The visitors were rocked by the early goal and Heybridge had good chances to increase the lead.
Wayne Adcock latched onto a poor throw in defence by Enfield and homed in on goal, but was denied by a saving tackle from Cooper. A superb header over the Enfield defence from Adam Gillespie sent Adcock in and he did well to win a corner.
Swifts looked to have increased their lead when the Enfield keeper was stranded off his line, but Simon Parker shot towards the empty net was deflected just wide of the near post.
Enfield came into the game more and strikers Dunwell and Darlington kept the Swifts inform central defenders English and Lewis on their toes.
The two combined well on the half-hour Darlington's cross found the head of Dunwell and his header looked a goal all the way.
Swifts keeper Banks sprung himself to his left and showed great strength in the wrist to palm the header away, and then recovered to get back on his feet to be in position to hold the follow up header.
The Swifts keeper then had to race off his line moments later to dive at the feet of Darlington.
The visitors finished the half on top with English having to make a desperate tackle as last man and then a dangerous deep cross forced Wall to head over his own bar.
Just when it seemed Swifts would hold on to the lead for half time Terry headed home. He had appeared to foul Swifts keeper Banks in the process and the collision between the two forced the Enfield scorer to leave the pitch with a head wound.
Early chances in the second period for Wall and Adcock saw them both fire over.
In the 56th minute a bad header back to the Enfield keeper was pounced on by Adcock.
He outjumped the keeper to head over him and then as he landed back on his feet he had presence of mind to know just where the goal was. Adcock'ss shot on the turn was sneaking just inside the post but an Enfield defender slid in to poke wide.
On the hour, Enfield won a corner and Darlington was left in space to slot home from close range.
Swifts came back strongly and, from a Swifts' corner, Lewis headed back across goal. Wall raced in and his header went straight at the keeper, who held it but, did not know much about it.
The visitors should have wrapped the match up in the 70th minute. A superb dummy by Dunwell left Darlington in space in the Swifts box but he wasted the opportunity.
With time running out, Swifts gained the draw they deserved when Wall headed goal bound an 89th minute corner and it took a fine save to tip it over the bar.
But it was not keeper Hall who made the save but defender Cooper and he was given his marching orders which left Wall to fire another unstoppable penalty to give Swifts just reward for their endeavours.
