Jim Magilton will sign permanently for Ipswich tomorrow if he can agree personal terms with the club.
Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday have agreed an undisclosed fee.
And now it is down to the player himself to decide if he wants to stay and help the club achieve Premiership status.
The Northern Ireland international has always maintained he wants to leave Wednesday and stay at Portman Road.
Burley said: "Both clubs a have agreed fees after speaking for four of five days. He has shown what a class player he is and what an exceptional passer of the ball he is.
"Jim is in Ireland now and I will speak to him tomorrow and we will do everything possible to keep him."
Ipswich beat Huddersfield 3-0 with goals from Magilton, David Johnson and Bobby Petta, to keep them in second place. And they recorded a record-breaking 21st clean sheet in the league.
But it was the manner of the victory which delighted many including manager Burley.
He said: "It was an exceptional performance. We won by three but it could have been double. The partnership between David Johnson and James Scowcroft was an absolute delight.
"We were very sound at the back and passed it extremely well.It is important to have you key players so it was good to have James back while David is back to his best and they have an ideal partnership."
Huddersfield boss Peter Jackson was in no mood to defend his players. He said: "Ipswich were by far the better team.
"I can't defend my players after a performance like that."
Mick Stockwell limped off with a groin injury and could be out for a short while. And it is a similar story for Manuel Thetis who has pulled a hamstring.
