Westcliff composer Barrington Pheloung takes to podium later this year to conduct a unique concert - including his own compositions for film and TV.
Music from the award-winning Inspector Morse series and the Oscar-nominated film Hilary & Jackie will be the highlights of the concert, organised to help Essex charities.
The concert is being arranged by the Lord's Taverners charity and will be held at the Brentwood Centre, Doddinghurst Road, Brentwood on October 1. Tickets are on sale now.
Hilary & Jackie, for which Australian-born Barrington wrote the original score and chose and co-ordinated other music in the film, is based on the true-life story of the cellist Jacqueline Du Pre and is currently on release.
His first major commission was to compose the theme tune for the TV detective series Inspector Morse, starring John Thaw.
Barrington, a conductor before concentrating on composing, will be heading the London Metropolitan Orchestra. Guest soloist will be cellist Caroline Dale, who played on the original soundtrack of Hilary & Jackie.
Haydn's Trauer Symphony, No 44 in E Minor and Mozart's Jupiter Symphony, No 41 in C Major, K 551 will also be played.
Alan Wyatt, chairman of the Essex branch of the Lord's Taverners said: "We hope this year to have raised enough to buy another specially designed minibus for use by an Essex charity looking after disabled children. We want to give youngsters, especially those with special needs, a sporting chance."
The Lord's Taverners, whose patron is the Duke of Edinburgh, was formed in 1950 by leading actors frequenting the Old Tavern at Lord's cricket ground. Since then more than £18 million has been raised for charity. Barrington Pheloung is a very keen cricketer.
The concert will be followed by a black-tie dinner at Stock Brook Manor, Billericay, when Barrington will talk about the Hilary and Jackie film score.
Tickets for the concert cost from £12.50, from the Brentwood Centre box office on 01277 215151. Dinner tickets cost £40 - more details from Nicholas Cook on 01245 211202.
