Thieves have stolen an Easter egg which was to be raffled for a children's playgroup.
The crooks struck at the Harwich Centre Playgroup, swiping a Galaxy egg which was first prize in its Easter raffle. Funds raised are due to pay for new play equipment for the children.
Under-five organiser Chris Badham said the staff could hardly believe it when they came back from their lunch break to find the egg gone.
It had been on display outside the playgroup office and parents have been buying tickets. Mrs Badham said: "The staff and caretakers were very annoyed - really upset.
"They thought how could anyone be so mean as to do that, especially when the money is for the children."
Mrs Badham will now have to replace the egg using money from the ticket sales.
