Anthony Gunn from Little Baddow won the boys title at the Essex County 8 and Under Short Tennis Tournament at the Hornchurch Sports Centre on Sunday.

He first qualified for the quarter finals where he overcame Nathan Walsh of Harlow 11-9, then beat Benedict Mynard of Bicknacre11-2 for a place in the final.

He took the title with a 11-7 win over Ben Evington (Chigwell).

His brother Richard reached the quarter-final where he lost out to James Aggio-Brewe of Upminster 9-11.

The girls title went to Ruth Pitcher (Harlow) who beat Aimee Daly (Brentwood) 11-6 in the final.

With the LTA Junior Inter County Cup for the 18 and Under age group having been completed, attention now turns to the 13 and Under event, which is being held during the first weekend in May.

Essex boys defend the National title they won last year and are in action in Group 1 at Bath University. They will play Norfolk, Surrey and Leicestershire.

The girls, playing in Group 2B, are in action in Sutton and will play Sussex, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
