Witham manager George Young regarded Northwood as one of the best teams they had met during the season and they proved to be that in a hard fought battle in the mud at Spa Road on Saturday.
There was little to choose between the teams in a midfield struggle with not much goalmouth activity in the first half.
Witham's best chance fell to Grant Wedlock when he was put through, but his shot lacked power and was easily saved by Lee Carroll in the Northwood goal.
At the other end, Town goalkeeper Tony Williams did well to save from Kevin Cooper and injured himself in the process.
Then a shot from Northwood's Dave Kellman was blocked by Justin Pearce following a corner just before the break.
Soon after the break, Wayne Vaughan and Adam Morrish were both robbed of the ball as they were about to shoot by the excellent Northwood defender Rene Street.
As the ball went from end to end, Williams made a magnificent one handed save from a Cooper free kick when the ball looked destined for the top corner of the net.
Witham finished the game on top with both Vaughan and Morrish again going close to scoring but Town had to settle for just the one point.
Witham first team make their longest journey of the season on Saturday when they visit Hungerford.
On Tuesday (March 16), Town entertain Harlow Town at Spa Road (7.45pm kick off).
Harlow are second in the league and it has been a long time since the two clubs last met so a good game looks in prospect.
Town Reserves are at home on Saturday against Enfield in a Fred Budden Trophy tie (3pm k.o).
The only other Witham team to play over the weekend was the Under 18's who fought out a 4-4 draw with Burnham Ramblers, thus maintaining their high position in the Eastern Junior Alliance League.
Town found themselves 3-0 down after 15 minutes and that remained the score until half-time.
In the second half, Witham looked a difficult side and scored four goals via Gerry Hawes (2), Mark Bumpstead and Gino Defoe.
Straight from the kick off, the ball was worked through for the Ramblers equaliser, without a Witham player touching the ball.
