MP Ivan Henderson has stepped in the row over plans for Frinton's first town centre pub.
Mr Henderson said he supported the moves for a pub in the tranquil resort, despite protests.
And he said he believes it will prove to be "a popular amenity which will not be out of keeping with the resort".
The proposal by brewery giants, J D Wetherspoon was recently given the go-ahead by Tendring councillors.
Mr Henderson, who is the town's MP, said: " Whilst I am conscious of the concerns expressed, I am also aware that many residents welcome the decision but feel under pressure to remain silent.
"I am under no such pressure and I wish to state publicly that I believe a Wetherspoons pub in Frinton will prove a popular and successful amenity for residents and visitors."
Mr Henderson said he had written to Wetherspoons - who now need to get a drinks' licence - to ask for a meeting in order to discuss their plans. Mr Henderson said he accepted some residents have genuine concerns.
