Billericay Town's weekend soccer match was halted for three minutes as players, officials and managers of both sides tried to stop fighting on the terraces.
Trouble started in the closing stages as the hugely-supported home side battled to save a Ryman League game which they eventually lost 1-0 at former Football League club Aldershot.
A gang of about 20 Aldershot followers infiltrated an area behind one goal where the bulk of Billericay's 200-strong band of travelling fans had been segregated.
The invading fans lashed out at Billericay followers, who included women and young children.
Billericay chairman Rod Moore, whose sons Russell, 12, and Robert, 16, were in the area affected by the fighting, raced to the area from the directors' box along with home officials, players of both sides and the two opposing managers - Billericay's John Kendall and Aldershot's George Borg.
The referee called a halt to the action while order was restored and police were called, but no arrests were made.
