Drenched fund-raisers faced monsoon conditions when they walked around the edge of Canvey.
The sponsored walk threatened to become a sponsored swim as rain and high winds battered the 43 brave volunteers.
However, the poor conditions only made them more determined to finish the 13-mile trek and raise thousands of pounds for the Mayor's Charity Fund.
The event was organised by Castle Point Council's leisure department to promote its Active for Live campaign, which promotes walking as a healthy lifestyle option.
The cash will be distributed to more than a dozen Canvey charities.
