The widow of entertainer Roy Castle has visited Lawford to pay tribute to three young heroes.
Rachel Gentry, 9, Carla Dawson and Daniel James, both 14, have been presented with awards from the Rotary Club of Manningtree Stour Valley for coping with serious illness or helping others.
They received their accolades at a ceremony at the Venture Centre, attended by Fiona Castle.
Rachel, of Springbank Avenue, Lawford, was nominated for her "positive and cheery attitude" despite suffering from chronic polyarthritis.
Carla, of Temple Pattle, Brantham, has endured chemotherapy, physiotherapy and surgery after being diagnosed with cancer. Her teacher Ian Duncan said: "She is a smashing young lady and I'm proud to know her."
Daniel, of Hunter Drive, Lawford, was nominated for coming to the aid of an elderly lady - who had fallen and broken her hip - on his paper round. His headteacher, Deborah Hollister, said: "With young people like him in the community, the future is in very safe hands."
