Chelmsford Chieftains inflicted their third successive win over Invicta Dynamos as they cruised to the Premier League play-offs.

A fine team display was capped by ace points scorers Andy Hannah, Jon Cotton and Dave Heavey who collected 13 points between them.

The win was pleasing for Cotton who was released by the Kent-based club in November before being signed by Chieftains on deadline day.

Before Chieftains' biggest gate of the season (800), it took just 2.34 for them to take the lead when a Hannah blue-liner flew past Dave Langford in the Dynamos net.

Chieftains' second goal came when Hannah's well directed wrist shot gave Langford no chance.

Chieftains then went further ahead. Glen Moorhouse's slap shot was only partly saved by Langford, leaving Cotton and Richard Whiting to work an opening for Hannah's hat-trick goal.

Some Dynamos pressure on the Chieftains' goal left Phil Chard to hit home a fine effort.

Twelve seconds later good interplay by Whiting, Hannah and Tero Sarkiniemi left the big Finn the job of firing beneath Langford to make the score 4-1.

With just 42 seconds left on the period clock, Heavey intercepted a pass and his instinctive shot was only steered by Langford to Cotton who accepted the chance to net against his former club.

The second period started with Craig Metcalf netting and 36 seconds later the contest was as good as over when Hannah's shot squeezed through Langford's legs.

Invicta's fortunes picked up with two goals in less than a minute, Jamie Randall and Kyle Dolman the scorers.

However, at 30.58, Metcalf and Heavey were instrumental in setting up Cotton's high wrist shot for the hosts' eighth goal.

With the game coming to a close, Chieftains netted their ninth goal Cotton scoring his hat-trick goal.

Jackie Davis, Promotions Director from Ridleys, the Essex Brewer, presented their sponsored man-of-the- match awards to Andy Hannah (Chieftains) and John Noctor from Invicta.

Saturday sees Chieftains at Blackburn Hawks before returning to Riverside on Sunday to face local rivals Romford Raiders. Face off for Sunday is 6.30pm.
