A Rochford postman has received a five-figure sum in compensation from Southend Hospital after its negligence led to one of his fingers being amputated.
In August 1993 the hospital sent Vince Sach home twice from Accident and Emergency without proper treatment for a badly lacerated finger on his right hand.
Mr Sach, 30, of Prentice Close, was sent back two weeks later by his doctor, and ended up losing a finger and part of his hand.
Mr Sach said the damages were only about half of what he had hoped for.
He said: "I would have loved to have gone to court. But my solicitor advised I have one of the best out of court settlements."
Chris Humbles, director of quality and nursing for Southend Hospital, said: "Attempts were made to settle this at an early stage. We very much regret the effect this has had on Mr Sach, and unreservedly apologise."
