Youth soccer: Rangers turn up the heat on Gas

Rangers earned their spurs with a closely-fought 2-1 win over Methane Boys. Warren and Byrne got their goals, with MacDonald replying with a tasty penalty for Canvey-based Methane.

In the final, Fairfax will take on Benfleet Youth. They triumphed 4-2 over Ekco Whitecaps 2nd with Chandler scoring two. Hillman and Newton completed the tally with Draper and Madden replying.

In the under-14s, Shoebury-based Blackgate Gunners won through to the final of the Essex Andrews Cup competition when they beat Chelmsford City Youth 3-1. Butterworth scored two and Wilson one.

Ekco Whitecaps reached the under-15 Rosser Trophy final with a 2-1 win over Tempest, goals coming from Frost and Brenkley.

They hold what is believed to be a unique record of having got through to the final of the County Cup four seasons running.

In the final Ekco play London team Ferns on April 25 at Clapton Football Club's Spotted Dog ground.
