Police are appealing for help in identifying a would-be mugger who attacked a woman in South Ockenden but failed to steal her handbag.
An Essex Police spokesman said a 39-year-old woman was walking in the Derry Avenue area of the town yesterday when a man approached her from behind, put his arm around her neck, pushed her to the ground and tried to steal her handbag.
She kicked and screamed and the man ran off empty-handed.
He is described as white, aged 18-20, about 5ft 11ins tall, with short, light brown curly hair. He was wearing a black bomber jacket and shiny tracksuit trousers.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact police at South Ockendon on 01708 852332
