A second wave of redundancies is to hit a major employer in Colchester.
Around 25 jobs are to go at Sound Attenuators, which makes acoustic equipment and is based at Eastgates.
The announcement comes just weeks after 12 people were told they faced the axe at the same site.
Management confirmed the cuts which come after a major customer pulled its contract.
Staff at the firm believe most of the jobs will go from the shop floor although some office-based posts may also be affected.
One employee, who did not wish to be named, said: "This means we will have lost a large chunk of the workforce in recent weeks.
"Everyone is in a bit of confusion really. We knew it was bad but we didn't expect this sort of news."
The company, part of Salex Acoustic Materials, which recently had a multi-million pound expansion to its site in Newcomen Way on the Severalls Industrial estate, today confirmed around 25 redundancies were to be made but declined to comment further.
