Up to 70 people will lose their jobs after a firm announced it is to close next year.
Milk Link, which operates at Tanner Foods in Sible Hedingham, said the first wave of redundancies would take effect next month.
In a statement released yesterday, Milk Link confirmed 52 people would lose their jobs at the Oxford Lane plant on August 12. A further 18 will be axed next March when the plant closes.
Talks were being held last night between management and employees.
A Milk Link statement said the decision to cease production was made due to the national trend of milk production moving towards the west of the UK.
It said: " Increased cost of fuel meant that it was becoming increasingly uneconomic to move milk long distances to Essex."
