A BOGUS gynaecologist who treated scores of women in south Essex hospitals has been struck off the medical register.
A General Medical Council disciplinary panel banned Nigerian doctor Henry Akpata, 62, from practising again in this country after a three-day hearing.
The panel heard he secured employment as a locum with both Southend and Basildon hospitals through falsely claiming in his CV he was a member of the prestigious Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, which would have meant he was a consultant.
The doctor had, in fact, failed the membership exam three times.
It is understood Dr Akpata was qualified as a junior gynaecologist, who could only work under the supervision of a consultant.
It is understood he worked at Southend and Basildon hospitals in this junior capacity.
